IPOH: Development on human capital and workforce (WfD) need to be focused in order to build the socioeconomic resilience in Malaysia, said Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB) Group Chairman Tan Sri Abdul Wahid Omar.
The former Minister in the Prime Minister's Department said among the action that must be taken to fulfil the needs is to do an annual report on the workforce by Human Resources Ministry and the Institute of Labour Market Information and Analysis (Ilmia).
"The report will analyse Malaysia's skill gap and outline the enhancement needed, if any, regarding specific sectors; useful to aggregate Ilmia information into a more useful source of market.
"Learn from South Korea on effective government-led model for WfD, awarded by World Bank, 2013; and the important part of aligning WfD is the collaborative approach implementation," he said when participating as a panellist at the Pangkor Dialogue 2017 Plenary Session here, today.
The two-day event themed "Making the Future: Innovative Pathways to Sustainable Development" organised by Institut Darul Ridzuan (IDR) was a platform to discuss issues relating to socio-economic development and sustainability.
Besides that, Abdul Wahid said the entrepreneurs who are the key exporters of frontier products need to be identified to allow knowledge sharing as well as provide comprehensive professional services to other entrepreneurs.
He said the initiative could be done via Entrepreneurship-in-Residence (EIR) programme that had been found successful in Chile and San Francisco and the programme could be coordinated by The Malaysian Global Innovation & Creativity Centre (Magic).
Besides that, Abdul Wahid added that leverage on digital economy such as the e-commerce could create job opportunities, increase income and promote efficiency.
"Therefore, Malaysia has launched the Digital Free Trade Zone (DFTZ) to promote the growth of e-commerce by providing a state of the art platform," he said. — Bernama
