Felcra to venture into corn cultivation to reduce import

MALACCA: Felcra Berhad will implement a special corn crop project to feed livestock to reduce the country's dependence on imports now valued at about RM3 billion a year.
Chief executive officer Zulkarnain Md Eusope said five locations had been identified so far for the project with each location covering an area of between 1,000ha and 1,500ha.
"So far, we have been experimenting the cultivation of 30 corn varieties in Perak to study the suitability of soil for the planting process before implementing the project which is expected to begin in the first quarter of next year.
"The five locations identified are Perlis, Johor, Pahang, Sabah and Sarawak," he said at the Programme Management Retreat: Business Planning 2018-2022 press conference at Bandar Hilir here today which was attended by 150 participants who are from the top management group.
He said Felcra expects to reduce the country's dependence on imported livestock feed over the next five years. — Bernama
