Igniting the spark

    FIRST City University College recently hosted a Diploma Graduation Showcase featuring works of 55 students from its Faculty of Design & Built Environment.
    The five-day event showcased six students’ body of work throughout their study period from Diploma of Interactive Design and 49 final- year project presentations by students of Diploma in Interior Design programme.
    The students’ projects were curated and exhibited based on the theme “Ignite”, representing the students’ aim of igniting the spark within each individual, just like a match. The launch, which was held on the first day of the showcase, was attended by Tan Sri Dr Teo Chiang Liang (First City Corporation director), First City UC’s management executives, faculty’s academic staff, its collaborative partner companies, potential employers and industry partners.
    Yeong Yin Cheng, First City UC’s chief operating officer, said in her opening speech, “With the completion of our expansion, First City UC provides the best teaching and learning environment within a conducive campus and with the launch of new programmes, it is a very exciting time for us as a higher education provider.
    “I am proud of our teaching staff at the faculty for their determination in providing the best guidance and imparting their knowledge to all our students, and equally proud of the students for the effort and hard work you have shown throughout your studies here at First City UC.”
    First City UC takes pride in its design programmes that offer holistic design education – combining its experience in running UK franchised programmes for over 20 years, harnessing on the vast knowledge and teaching ability of its academic staff and complementing it with state-of-the-art facilities and equipment such as 3D printers, laser cutter and Macintosh laboratories.
    First City UC will be offering dual award degree programmes; BA (Hons) Interior Architecture & Design, BA (Hons) Graphic Design and BA (Hons) Furniture & Product Design in new collaboration with Manchester Metropolitan University, UK as well as its popular Foundation in Art & Design programme. The faculty is also introducing three new ones specially developed to produce outstanding graduates in the design field: Diploma of Graphic Design, BA (Hons) Fashion Marketing and Master of Design Management.
