Malaysian leaders mourn Kedah Sultan's passing

PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak led Malaysians today in expressing sorrow over the demise of Kedah's Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah.
"Innalillah. I am saddened and sorrowed by the news of the Kedah Sultan's passing. Almarhum Tuanku and I have a very close relationship, be it on an official or personal capacity.
"Almarhum Tuanku was a highly-respected King during his two reigns as the Yang di-Pertuan Agong as well as the Kedah state ruler.
"He was also very friendly, hospitable, virtuous and highly loved by the people," he posted in a series of tweets today.
Najib also extended his and the government's condolences to the Kedah royal family, adding: "May his soul be blessed and be placed among the faithful. Al-Fatihah."
Najib is currently in the US for a working visit, and is set to meet President Donald Trump tomorrow at the White House to discuss various matters including the situation in Myanmar and on terrorism.
Other leaders from both sides of the political divide also took to social media to extend their condolences over the passing of the two-time Agong.
