SEREMBAN: Negri Sembilan MCA today called on traders at the Pasar Besar Seremban which was razed by a fire on Saturday night to remain calm as the state government has assured that the market would be restored.
State MCA chairman Datuk Seri Dr Lim Chin Fui said this was due to a positive statement by Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan yesterday, urging the Seremban Municipal Council (MPS) to apply for immediate allocation from the Ministry of Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government to repair and upgrade the market.
"This means the Pasar Besar will remain at the existing location. Earlier, many traders at the market were worried about rumours that the market will be moved to Bukit Kepayang," he told reporters after visiting the market today.
On his visit today, Lim said his visit was to gather feedback from affected traders as to whether they were agreeable to be temporarily relocated to the parking lot where the MPS will put up tents to operate rent-free until the repair works at the market are fully completed.
Meanwhile, Pasar Besar Seremban Traders Welfare Association chairman Koh Lee Giap said his association would set up the Pasar Besar Seremban Disaster Fund to raise donations to help the affected traders.
The fire at 7.30pm swept through the top floor of the 38-year-old market involving a majority of the 197 shops that include 99 food outlets. — Bernama
