KUALA LUMPUR: Police have busted three separate groups believed to be drug distributors and seized drugs worth RM5 million following a series of arrests of nine individuals, including two Nigerians.
They were detained in seven raids conducted on Sept 11 and 12 by the Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) and Special Tactical Intelligence Narcotics Group (Sting) in Kedah, Kelantan and Kuala Lumpur.
NCID Director Commissioner Datuk Seri Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff said police seized 87.4kg of Ganja, 66.3kg of Syabu, Erimin 5 pills, Yaba pills and 263g of cocaine.
"The drugs are worth about RM5mil.
"The raids in Kelantan and Kedah were follow-up operations following a few drug related cases busted earlier this year," he said in his final press conference in Bukit Aman today.
Mokhtar is expected to take over as the new Special Branch director following the appointment of Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun as the new Inspector-General of Police (IGP).
"If the syndicate was successful, it would have been able to produce various types of drugs, which would be able to cater to 500,000 addicts.
He added that the drugs were imported from neighbouring countries and Brazil and were meant for local distribution.
"This success would not have been possible without the cooperation and sharing of intelligence with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA)," he said.
