'Different systems for federal and state roads will be changed in Penang if Pakatan wins'

GEORGE TOWN: The system where the federal government is responsible for federal roads and state governments are responsible for state roads may be changed if Pakatan Harapan (PH) wins federal power.
Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said such a system has been in place since before his administration came to power.
"That is how the system works.
"We will have to think about changing the system when we win Putrajaya," he said in a press conference today.
Who is in charge of fixing roads in Penang has become a hot button topic after the state was criticised over the poor road condition in Solok Relau.
The state however said the road there was a federal road and only the federal administration could resolve the issue there as per the law.
Lim said his government could only channel complaints to the relevant federal departments if state agencies received complaints on federal roads.
"We will tell you when you call us, it is best you complain to the federal department," he said, and added his government had allocated some RM12 million a year for repairs and maintenance of state roads.
At the same press conference, Penang Island City Council secretary Yew Tung Seang said state and Council roads were to be fixed within 24 hours after receiving complaints about a bad patch of road per state policy.
