KUALA BERANG: National sprint queen Fatehah Mustapa bagged the "Malam Gema Sehati Sejiwa" Special Award organised by the Kuala Berang state constituency last night.
The 28-year-old, from Kampung Langgar here, received the award, along with two local figures, namely Abdul Razak Yaakob, 80, and Mohamad Ibrahim, 70, who were named Independence stalwarts.
Fatehah, who bagged four gold medals in the women's cycling in the 2017 Kuala Lumpur SEA Games, expressed gratitude and joy over her selection as the award recipient.
"Alhamdulillah (Praise be to Allah) ... my thanks to Kuala Berang State Assemblyman Datuk Tengku Putera Tengku Awang for choosing me and two others as recipients of the award.
"This is a real honour for me, as a native of Kuala Berang, and my family. It is an honour to stand alongside them (the two other recipients) who fought for (Malaysia's) Independence. In fact, I had rescheduled my flight to Australia tonight so that I could attend this ceremony," she told a press conference here.
Also present were Terengganu State Assembly Speaker Datuk Zubir Embong and state Youth, Sports and Human Resources Committee chairman Datuk Rozi Mamat, who is also Telemong state assemblyman.
Fatehah is expected to leave for Australia today to undergo her training session before taking part in a championship in Bangkok, Thailand next month. — Bernama
