GEORGE TOWN: Penang Umno Youth today lodged a police report over the statement by Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng that the detention of state executive councillor, Phee Boon Poh by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) was illegal.
Its chief, Rafizal Abdul Rahim said the statement, which was deemed malicious and seditious, was meant to tarnish the image and disrepute the credibility of the commission as an independent body.
"The State Umno Youth wants the police to conduct an investigation under the Sedition Act and the Penal Code as the statement by Lim was deemed malicious.
"The statement also gave the impression that the MACC is a body that ignores the law and can detain anyone according to their whims and fancies. This is tarnishing the image of the MACC," he told reporters after lodging the report here today.
On Sept 5, MACC, in a statement, decided to take action against Lim who refused to apologise for making the statement which was allegedly slanderous in nature against the commission.
On Aug 25, MACC gave Lim 48 hours to tender an open and unconditional apology to the commission or face legal action following his statement on Phee. — Bernama
