Snatch thief pursued and nabbed by motorist

KAJANG: A motorist who gave chase and knocked down two snatch thieves ended up being assaulted by the crooks who stole his cellphone at Bandar Tun Hussein Onn on Tuesday.
Although he was injured, the 37-year-old victim put up a fight and managed to apprehend a suspect with the help of passers-by in the 5am incident.
It is learnt that the victim was driving at the time and had wound down his car windows to smoke a cigarette when the thieves who were on a motorcycle drove close to the left side of the vehicle before snatching the man's cellphone which was mounted on a holder that was attached to the windscreen.
As the thieves sped off, the victim gave chase and hit the motorcycle of the suspects, causing the machine to crash.
When he approached the suspects, he was set upon but passers-by intervened and helped nab a thief while his accomplice managed to escape.
Kajang police chief ACP Ahmad Dzaffir Mohd Yusoff said the 30-year-old suspect was arrested on the arrival of police at the scene and police recovered the stolen cellphone.
He said the suspect tested positive for drug abuse and a hunt for his accomplice is ongoing.
