AYER HITAM: A 28-year-old woman believed to be mentally unsound was arrested by police for disrespecting the Sultan of Johor Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar during a stopover the Ruler made here on Monday during the Kembara Mahkota Johor (KMJ) 2017 — an annual touring expedition of the state's 10 districts by the royal family.
The incident occurred opposite a fast-food restaurant on Jalan Medan Putra at about 9.30am when the friendly Sultan was meeting and greeting the public.
The woman apparently walked up to Sultan Ibrahim and hugged him before kissing him on the right cheek.
Policemen and the Sultan's bodyguards at the scene rushed over and attempted to pull the woman away but she resisted.
Sources said a struggle ensued, causing the woman to suffer a small cut on her lips.
However, police managed to subdue and arrest the woman who screamed and caused a commotion at the scene.
Police found no dangerous items on the suspect who had no previous criminal records but learnt that the woman had suffered depression for over 10 years.
It is learnt that she became depressed after failing in her aim for 19 A's in her SPM examinations in 2007. She had scored 18 A's and 1 B.
Investigators also learnt that she was treated for her health condition at a private hospital and a medium had also told her family that she could be a victim of black magic.
The woman had also confided in her family that she intended to marry a member of the royal family.
It is learnt that investigations are ongoing on the suspect for outraging modesty, obstructing a civil servant from carrying out duties — both under the Penal Code and for bad behaviour in public under the Minor Offences Act.
