Remand extended against Indonesian pirates in tanker hijack

KUALA TERENGGANU: The remand against 10 Indonesian pirates and another person, believed to be the mastermind, for investigation into the attempted hijack of a tanker, MT MGT1 in waters off Terengganu recently, has been extended until Sept 21.
The order to extend the remand was issued by Sessions/Magistare's Court senior assistant registrar Noradila Abdul Latiff following an application by the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) for investigation under Section 392 of the Penal Code, which was for gang-robbery.
The suspects, aged between 38 and 59, arrived at the court in a Black Maria at 10 am under heavy-guard by APMM.
The 10 pirates were among 13 detained last Sept 7 for attempting to hijack the tanker.While the 10 were detained on the tanker, three suspects on a smaller boat nearby managed to escape.
The other suspect, aged 59 and believed to be the master-mind, was detained in Johor Bharu, Johor, the following day. — Bernama
