KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian Society of Clinical Psychology has urged social media users to stop sharing images of victims of the tahfiz school fire this morning.
Its president, Dr. Zubaidah Jamil Osman in a statement said, the video clip and pictures, especially bodies and charred remains, can be very traumatising and disturbing to the family of the victims who are trying to cope with these terrible times.
Photographs and videos showing remains of the victim were being widely circulated, particularly on social messaging platform WhatsApp.
"The Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL) psychology department are doing their best by providing Psychological First Aid (PFA) to the affected family members," she said
Meanwhile Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun said the police will assist with the relevant agencies to ensure a thorough investigation is conducted.
MIC tresurer-general Datuk Seri S. Vell Paari also shared the same sentiment, and urged the public not to share images of victims of the fire in Jalan Keramat Ujung on social media.
Expressing his condolences to the families, Vell Paari said it was time for Kuala Lumpur City Hall and the Fire and Rescue Department to identify the religious schools which do not comply with safety standards.
The 5am fire at Tahfiz Darul Ittifaqiyah killed at least 22 students and two teachers. Three were reported to be in critical condition.
