KUALA LUMPUR: The Kuala Lumpur Hospital's (HKL) Chemistry Department will need at least two days to identify the remains of 23 individuals involved in a fire at the tahfiz school in Jalan Keramat.
Out of the 23, 21 are tahfiz students and two are the schools' caretakers.
Health Minister Datuk Seri S. Subramaniam confirmed the figures in a press conference held here at HKL's lobby today.
"From the seven burned victims, six are tahfiz students and one is a neighbour who came to help. They are receiving medical care at the emergency ward here.
"Four have been identified with critical injuries while three were mildly injured.
"They are receiving medical treatment at the department's ICare Ward.
"Meanwhile, two victims are seriously injured and another two are still being resuscitated," he said.
Today, at 10.40 am, 12 individuals were brought to the Forensic Institute for post-mortem and 11 more were brought in for the same procedure.

Subramaniam added the ministry will bring up the matter on safety regulations runned by non-governmental organisations and autonomous bodies in a Cabinet meeting soon.
On the sidelines, Emergency and Trauma Department head Prof. Datuk Seri Dr. Abu Hassan Asaari Abdullah said it would take time for the trauma and psychological affects on the victims to be managed.
He added the worst case was a 14-year-old boy who received multiple injuries on his pelvis, lung and liver.
