GEORGE TOWN: Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) today signed a memorandum of understanding (MoUs) with the University of North Sumatra and the State Islamic Institute of Palangka Raya for joint research and dissemination of knowledge.
USM School of Humanities dean Prof Dr Narimah Samat said the MoU was part of efforts by the research university in the country to expand collaboration with its partners in the Southeast Asia including in Indonesia, in terms of dissemination and exchange of knowledge, research and innovation and academic publications.
"The regional ties, especially with Indonesia's higher learning institutions, is not something new. In fact, it has been going on for quite some time now. The Indonesian students are also not foreign to USM … the university has accepted them as postgraduate students either via research or a mixed-mode programme, be they in the field of arts or science," she said at the signing ceremony here today.
The MoU was signed by Narimah, University of North Sumatra representative Dr Budi Agustono and State Islamic Institute of Palangka Raya representative Dr Abdul Qodir.
Narimah said based on statistics, over 200 Indonesian students were now undergoing their studies at all USM campuses. — Bernama
