28 foreign GROs nabbed in raid at Johor nightclubs

JOHOR BARU: Police detained 28 guest relations officers (GROs) during a raid at two entertainment outlets in Johor Baru between 1am and early morning today.
The GROs comprised of 27 Vietnamese women and one Indonesian, aged between 18 and 38 years.
Police also detained the two caretakers of the two nightclubs, aged 21 and 43 respectively. Police believe the two had been harbouring illegal foreign workers, and did not have any license to operate the night clubs.
Police also screened 118 guests aged between 22 and 58 years in the club during the raid. An Indonesian man was arrested for failing to show valid documents.
Police also rescued 23 Vietnamese women aged between 17 and 38 years believed to be forced to provide sex services.
The raid, codenamed Ops Noda, was conducted by 31 policemen including six officers from Johor Crime Investigation Department.
Johor police chief Commisioner Datuk Mohd Khalil Kader Mohd said in a statement that from the beginning of the year until August, 823 raids have been carried out at premises believed to be involved in vice, including massage parlours, spa outlets and entertainment centres.
So far, police have brought 500 GROs and other entertainment workers to court, police also issued 435 summonses to illegal entertainment centres, and 79 summonses to operators who have violated the entertainment license.
Police also confiscated RM93,753 from the raids.
