GEORGE TOWN: The body of a woman who is believed to have fallen from her motorcycle into a drain during the massive floods yesterday has been found.
The body of Noor Afidah Yahunas, 30, who was reported missing, was found in the river near Bukit Jambul this morning.
She is the first victim to have perished in the flash floods that hit all five districts in Penang.
A spokesman from the Fire and Rescue Department said two teams had been despatched to resume the search and rescue operations today.
The source said her body was found during a "water surface rescue" along the stream to a river at Bukit Jambul.
"The body was found at about 7.45am and has been handed to police for further action," the source said.
Penang Environment, Welfare and Caring Society Committee chairman Phee Boon Poh said as at 11am, there were still 320 victims at flood relief centres in all five districts in Penang.
He said the flood relief centres will continue to operate to accommodate the victims until cleanup efforts in their houses are completed.
"Food will continue to be supplied to all the flood victims", he said.
Meanwhile, state water supply authority, Perbadanan Bekalan Air Pulau Pinang (PBAPP) CEO Datuk Jaseni Maidinsa in a statement said the 12-hour scheduled water supply interruption in Seberang Prai Utara (SPU) and Butterworth tomorrow will been postponed.
Jaseni said PBAPP will sustain normal water supply in Penang over the weekend to support flood recovery efforts, as directed by Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.
"PBAPP will comply with this directive as we understand that people and businesses will need water supply to clean their properties following the
floods and landslides", he said.
The scheduled water interruption will be postponed to 10pm on Saturday, 23/9/2017 till 10am on Sunday, 24/9/2017.
