Najib was accompanied by his wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, during the visit at about 6.30pm. They recited the 'doa' (prayers) at the grave, led by the Mufti of Kedah, Datuk Mohd Syeikh Fadzil Awang.
The Prime Minister had concluded a visit to Washington, D.C. where he met and conferred with US President Donald Trump and later flew to London to meet Prime Minister Theresa May of the United Kingdom.
Sultan Abdul Halim, the 28th sultan of Kedah, passed away on Sept 11 at the age of 89 after a 58-year rule that also saw His Royal Highness reign twice as the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
During the visit to the grave, Najib and Rosmah were accompanied by Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah and his wife Datin Seri Hizam Awang Ahmad.
The special aircraft carrying Najib and Rosmah touched down at the Sultan Abdul Halim Airport in Kepala Batas at about 6pm.
Najib and Rosmah poured scented water and sprinkled flower petals on the grave.
They then flew to the federal capital.
Several members of the Kedah royal household also visited the grave then. They were the Tunku Temenggong of Kedah, Tan Sri Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz Sultan Abdul Halim, and the Tunku Bendahara of Kedah, Tan Sri Tunku Abdul Hamid Thani Almarhum Sultan Badlishah.
In a post on his Twitter account, Najib had said that Sultan Abdul Halim and he had had a cordial relationship, both in an official and personal capacity. — Bernama
