Four families made homeless in Labuan after fire razes their houses

LABUAN: Four families in Kampung Rancha-Rancha Darat here were made homeless when their wooden houses were razed to the ground in a fire early this morning.
Labuan Fire and Rescue Department director Zainal Madasin said Kg Jawa fire station dispatched a team of 15 firefighters in three engines to the scene as soon as it received a distress call at 8.18am.
He said the two houses with 12 family members had almost been razed to the ground when the team arrived but no casualties were reported.
"Another house was also almost on fire but our men managed to control it from spreading to 10 other houses nearby. The flames were completely extinguished at 8.42am," he said adding that the cause of the fire was still being investigated.
Labuan Parliamentary Constituency Community Service Centre head Basran Yunus said immediate assistance would be channeled to the victims.
"We have visited and received reports on the number of affected houses and family members.
"We have also ascertained suitable assistance for them, including materials to repair their houses, which will be channeled immediately," he told Bernama. — Bernama
