PETALING JAYA: Baskin-Robbins marked Malaysia Day by giving out free junior-scoops of ice cream at all 123 of its outlets nationwide.
The giveaway, which took place between 8pm and 10pm, was part of its Free Scoop Night in honour of Malaysia's recent SEA Games success.
At one Baskin-Robbins outlet in 1 Utama Shopping Centre, Selangor, people had been eagerly lining up for their free scoops of ice cream since 7.30pm.
Baskin-Robbins Malaysia president Datuk Cheah See Yeong was also at the outlet to help hand out scoops of ice cream.
Earlier, Cheah had helped count down to the moment when Free Scoop Night would begin, along with key Baskin-Robbins officials, as well as actress Amyra Rosli, who is Baskin-Robbins' official ambassador and First Pink Lady.
Cheah told local media: "We are proud of our athletes who managed to win 145 gold medals at our recently SEA Games. Sports is something that unites us, and we also wanted to do something for all Malaysians.
"Since today is also Malaysia Day, what better way to celebrate than with free ice cream?"
Cheah also remarked that the company had held a similar event some years ago, during the 2012 London Olympics.
At the time, Baskin-Robbins had given away over 68,000 scoops of ice cream at over 62 outlets, and Cheah said this time, he hoped to give away over 120,000 scoops.
