Ex-NRD officer claims trial to false promises of expediting IC applications

JOHOR BARU: A former Johor National Registration Department (NRD) officer claimed trial at the magistrate's court here today to five counts of deceiving four victims into believing he could expedite the application process for identification cards.
The four victims, transferred a sum of money between RM150 to RM2,000 to the accused after believing that they will get the identification cards at the Taman Setia Torpikal, Johor NRD headquarters, between June 2012 and March 2015.
The accused, Muhammad Khudzairi Fitri Hussein, 36, worked as an enforcement officer at the Johor NRD. He is facing two charges under Section 417 of the Penal Code and three charges under Section 465 of the Penal Code for cheating.
For Section 465, he may face a maximum two years jail term or fine or both upon conviction. For Section 417, he may face a maximum five years jail term or fine or both upon conviction.
He claimed trial to all charges before magistrate Mohd Azlan Shah Mohd Alias.
MACC prosecuting officer Norsyarina Raizan prosecuted, while the accused was represented by lawyer Nur Afiqah Hambali.
