Ex-NRD registration assistant faces cheating, forgery charges

JOHOR BARU: A former National Registration Department registration assistant claimed trial in the Magistrate’s Court to two counts of cheating.
Muhammad Khudzairi Fitri Hussein, 36, allegedly induced Misriah Khalilludin into handing RM300 and RM150 to him, after leading her to believe that he could help process her application for an Identity Card.
He is accused of committing the two offences at the NRD office at Kompleks Kementerian Dalam Negeri in Taman Setia Tropika and at a house in Lorong Cempedak, Kampung Sinaran Baru, Maju Jaya in early and late March, 2015 between 2pm and 6.30pm.
The charge under Section 417 of the Penal Code (Act 574) provides for up to five years imprisonment or a fine, or both, on conviction.
The accused, who is married and currently works as a cleaner in Singapore, also claimed trial to forging letters of application for Late Registration of Identity Card, to mislead and induce Muhammad Ismal Tumiran and Muhammad Saefful Tumiran into handing him RM1,000 each.
Muhammad Khudzairi is accused of committing both offences at the NRD Investigation and Enforcement Division at KDN Taman Setia Tropika here, on June 24, 2012.
The charges framed under Section 465 of the Penal Code, provides for imprisonment of up to two years or with fine, or both, on conviction.
The accused further denied forging a letter related to the National Registration Act 1959 and National Registration Regulations 1990 (Amended 2001), which allegedly induced Musa Absin to hand over RM2,000 to him for Identity Card registration and renewal of a Construction Industry Development Board card (CIDB).
He allegedly committed the offence at the same place on Feb 26, 2013, under Section 465 of the Penal Code.
Magistrate Mohd Azlan Shah Mohd Allias set tomorrow for re-mention.
Prosecuting officer Norsyarina Raizan represented the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, while the accused was represented by counsel Nor Afiqah Hambali. — Bernama
