THE Chinese social media is abuzz with rumours that Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg is searching for a Mandarin-speaking nanny who will be paid between US$110,000 and US$130,000 (RM460,185 and RM543,855) a year.
The rumours started after a job recruitment notice was posted on the website Indeed.com. It has been circulating around the WeChat groups of Chinese living and working in Silicon Valley.
That notice for a nanny stipulates these requirements — at least three years of experience, a bachelor's degree, a love for children and basic medical training. However, the nanny must be fluent in Mandarin.
The nanny will have to work five days straight (from 8am to 9pm) before getting five days off. She will receive full health benefits similar to that of a Silicon Valley engineer.
Netizens are assuming that the potential employer is Zuckerberg because of the Mandarin requirement and high salary.
The employer has been described as having a young entrepreneurial family with several businesses and charities who are trying to find a nanny for their newborn. Zuckerberg’s second daughter, August, was born last month, and is reported to have no less than 16 bodyguards.
Zuckerberg is fond of Mandarin and Chinese culture. His wife, Priscilla Chan, is the daughter of ethnic Chinese refugees from Vietnam.
A large number of Chinese netizens have stepped forward to announce their interest in becoming the Zuckerbergs’ nanny.
