GEMENCHEH: The Communications and Multimedia Ministry (KKMM) targets to complete distributing two million free MYTV decoders to recipients of 1Malaysia People's Aid (BR1M) nationwide by early next year.
KKMM deputy secretary-general (Operations) Datuk Dr Mohd Ali Mohamad Nor said more than 400,000 MYTV decoders had been given away to qualified household clusters.
"Each time KKMM holds a programme such as 'Connecting Uniting' we will ask MYTV to also participate by opening an exhibition stall.
"BR1M recipients can check their status with MYTV if they qualify to receive free decoder," he told the media after a ceremony to launch the programme in Felda Bukit Jalor, near here today.
Also present were Tampin Member of Parliament, Datuk Seri Shaziman Abu Mansor, Gemencheh State Assemblyman Datuk Mohd Isam Mohd Isa and Gemas State Assemblyman Datuk Abdul Razak Ab Said.
He said Malaysia had decided to cease analogue television broadcasts from the middle of next year.
In another development, Mohd Ali said KKMM planned to tour 40 rural areas in conjunction with the "Connecting Uniting" programme, this year.
He said 27 programmes had been held nationwide by September this year via the National Blue Ocean Strategy (NBOS) initiative with government agencies and private sector companies.
"The aim of the programme is to expose rural communities to the latest technologies so that they have the opportunity to increase their income, knowledge and others.
"The programme targets the B40 low income household in the isolated interior which is only accessible via boats, helicopters and four-wheel drive vehicles," he said.
Meanwhile, 25 families from Felda Bukit Jalor, Kampung Air Kuning and Kampung Punggur received free decoders from MYTV during the programme. — Bernama
