KUALA LUMPUR: KL Tower is eyeing to get itself into the Malaysian Book Of Records (MBR) through its annual internationally–acclaimed event, the KL Tower International Jump which is set to take off this year from Sept 29 till Oct 2.
Menara Kuala Lumpur Sdn Bhd, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Telekom Malaysia Group which manages KL Tower said it had engaged MBR for the purpose and was looking at not one, but four records.
Chief executive officer, Meor Shahril Anuar said the four records were for Highest Base Jump Platform, Largest Jumpers Participation at Base Jump, Most Consecutive Years in Organising Base Jump Events, and First Rope Jump in Malaysia.
He said the extreme sporting event was initially organised in conjunction with KL Tower's third anniversary celebration on Oct 3, 1999, and since then had become an annual event for KL Tower.
He expressed optimism about achieving the records judging from KL Tower's success in organising the event, which entered its 17th year, this year.
"This event has put Malaysia on the international tourism map as a destination for sports tourism activities. The event is in line with KL Tower's aspiration as a must-visit destination for Culture, Adventure and Nature activities," he told a press conference here today.
This year's event would see the participation of 120 international jumpers from Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Finland, Denmark, French, Ireland, Iran, Germany, Italy, Japan, Kuwait, Luxembourg, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Russia, South Africa, Switzerland, United States, and United Kingdom.
Apart from that, he said, this year's event would also offer the Sitting on the Ledge package for the public to have a taste of the adrenaline and watch up close the jumpers in action, jumping from the ledge of KL Tower at a height of 300m above sea level.
"The package will start at RM144 for MyKad holder and RM177 for non-MyKad holders, inclusive of entrance to the Sky Deck and Observation Deck," he said.
Meor Shahril added he was also optimistic of achieving one million local and foreign visitors to KL Tower this year compared with 900,000 last year. — Bernama
