KUALA LUMPUR: To promote public awareness on the importance of donating blood, the Life Insurance Association of Malaysia (Liam) has once again come forward to organise a blood donation campaign starting today, until Sept 29.
Its president, Toi See Jong, said in the hope of increasing blood supply at the National Blood Bank, more than 5,000 donors were expected to take part in the campaign that would be held at 52 strategic locations nationwide.
“We hope the public will benefit from this campaign and take the opportunity to carry out health checks while donating blood to those in need,” he said during the launching ceremony of the blood drive held at Medan Mara here today.
The annual programme is jointly organised with the National Association of Malaysian Life Insurance and Family Takaful Advisors, National Heart Institute, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Specialist Centre and the blood bank.
Other activities held include health talks, Body Mass Index tests, as well as counselling and clinic sessions to quit smoking.
City folks are urged to join in the campaign that will be held at Medan Mara (for the Central Zone), starting from today until Sept 21. — Bernama
