Man hits wife, children with hammer after being awakened from sleep

JAKARTA: A man, angered after being awakened from his afternoon nap, hit his wife and children's heads with a hammer before running amok and destroying his neighbours' belongings.
According to online media reports, the incident occurred about 4pm yesterday in a housing area in Kampung Kalodran, in the Walantaka district in Kota Serang, about 100km from here.
Stanley was alleged to have hit his children, Marcel, 8, and April, 5, and then his wife, Diah, 35, on the head with a hammer, after the children woke him up.
The Rukun Tetangga head in the area, Harahap, was quoted as saying that neighbours who heard cries for help by Diah went to her aid.
It was then that the man went out of the house and began smashing several vehicles and the glass doors and windows of several houses in the vicinity.
However, the villagers managed to apprehend him and handed him over to the police.
The suspect is now in police custody, while his wife and two children have been admitted to hospital with serious head injuries. — Bernama
