Heavy rain, strong wind bring down trees in Penang

GEORGE TOWN: Heavy rain and strong wind uprooted trees in several areas in Penang today, bringing traffic to a standstill on some roads.
The Fire and Rescue Department received a distress call from public in Bayan Baru and Balik Pulau at about 4pm.
"A team of fire and rescue personnel was sent to the scene, but no one was hurt in the incident," a spokesman of the department said, adding that uprooted trees blocked the traffic flow had been removed.
Meanwhile, the Penang Meteorological Department has issued severe weather warning over northern states of the Peninsular.
The statement said thunderstorms,heavy rain and strong winds are expected to persist until early tonight.
