ALOR GAJAH: A man who was initially detained for allegedly stealing cash from donation boxes at the Kuala Sungai Baru Mosque here was also found to have been involved in 17 cases of motorcycle theft.
Malacca police chief Datuk Abd Jalil Hassan said the 27-year-old suspect from Dengkil, Selangor was picked up in an operation dubbed "Op Lejang Khas" in the district at about 5.30am on Sept 12.
"The suspect's arrest had uncovered his (alleged involvement in) motorcycle theft activities since early last year," he told a press conference here today.
Abd Jalil said the man's two other accomplices, aged 33 and 35, were also arrested at two locations in the district at 2pm the same day.
"Initial investigation revealed that the stolen motorcycles were sold to drug pushers between RM500 and RM600 each to buy (their) drug supply," he said, adding that all the suspects were unemployed. — Bernama
