School teacher arrested for allegedly raping 14-year-old student

KUCHING: A school teacher was arrested for allegedly raping a 14-year-old student in a car at a secluded location in Siburan on Tuesday.
The form two student related her woes to another teacher, a counsellor, who in turn alerted the victim's mother.
The victim claimed the incident took place between August and sometime recently.
Sarawak Criminal Investigation Department (CID) chief SAC Datuk Dev Kumar said the victim's mother lodged a report at the Siburan station at 5pm on Tuesday, alleging that the teacher raped the girl in his car at a secluded location in Siburan.
"The suspect was picked up at 7pm by a team from Padawan CID at his house in Tapah, Siburan near here about few hours after the victim's mother lodged a police report," said Dev in a statement yesterday.
Police seized the suspect's car for forensic examination and as part of the probe.
Police obtained the remand order against the suspect, 51, when he was produced at the magistrate's court here this morning.
Magistrate Zulhairil Sulaiman ordered the suspect to be remanded to facilitate investigation into the case.
The case is being investigated under Section 376 of the Penal Code for rape, which carries a maximum 30 year prison term and whipping if found guilty.
