Unemployed man jailed 25 months for theft, disposing of stolen item

PETALING JAYA: An unemployed man was sentenced to 25 months' jail by the Magistrate’s Court here today after he pleaded guilty to theft and disposing of several units of stolen vehicle components last week.
Magistrate Zaki Asyraf Zubir sentenced A. Kathir Resan, 45, to 15 months’ jail for theft and 10 months’ jail for disposing of the stolen items, which is to be served consecutively starting today.
On the charge for theft, made under Section 379 of the Penal Code, Kathir Resan pleaded guilty to stealing 15 units of vehicle components, worth RM3,000, which belonged to Ho Chen Lip at a vehicle spare-part store in Seri Kembangan at 1.30pm last Sept 10.
The charge provides an imprisonment for up to seven years, or fine, or both, if found guilty.
He was also charged under Section 414 of the same law with disposing of 11 units of the stolen vehicle components at another place in Seri Kembangan at 7pm on the same day.
In mitigation, Kathir Resan, who was unrepresented, said he was remorseful.
