Watch out for fraudulent contract offers: Works Ministry

20 Sep 2017 / 00:02 H.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Works Ministry has called on the public to be cautious about receiving suspicious contract offers from people who claim to be representatives from the ministry.
A media statement from the ministry today stated that the ministry was taking such fraud cases seriously since they were using the ministry's name for their fraudulent activities.
"The modus operandi of the suspects is contacting the victim through telephone or letter (fake) offering a contract whether through direct negotiation or tender from the ministry," said the statement.
Besides that, there were cases where the victims were asked to pay a certain amount of money for the official tax and stamp duty in order to approve the fake contract.
The ministry also detected cases where the victims were asked to bank in a sum of money into an account as a deposit to "help" them to process or obtain the project or contract. — Bernama
