14 students nabbed in truancy sweep test positive for drugs

KOTA KINABALU: Fourteen of the 18 students nabbed for truancy in an integrated operation in Penampang, near here, yesterday tested positive for drugs.
Penampang District Police chief DSP Rosley Hobden said the students were detained in the operation conducted for over two hours starting from 11am at three shopping centres in Putatan.
"All 14 students were confirmed positive by the National Anti-Drugs Agency (Nada) which participated in the operation," he said in a statement.
The integrated operation comprising 39 officers and personnel from the police, Nada, Penampang District Education Office, the People's Volunteer Corps (Rela), and disciplinary teachers was aimed at preventing and combating the issue of truancy among students in the district.
He said, besides instilling awareness among students to stay away from the truancy culture, the operation was aimed at strengthening police cooperation with the education department and other agencies in the district. — Bernama
