PUTRAJAYA: A Road Transport Department (RTD)'s officer was charged with breaking into the Director General's office, at the magistrate's court here today.
Syed Abdul Rahman Perman, 35, claimed trial to criminal trespass at the Transport ministry building at about 1am on July 13, 2017.
The charge is under section 447 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to 6 months or a fine of up to RM3,000 or both, upon conviction.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Izzat Fauzan prosecuted the case while lawyer S. Mogan represented the accused.
However, Syed Abdul Rahman's lawyer, S Mogan, said his client had not received his salary for the last six to seven months.
He said the accused is a civil servant working with the RTD, has two children to support and is in the process of divorce proceedings.
Citing RM5,000 as too high, he urged the court to fix an amount between RM1,500 and RM2,000 or a reasonable sum. Syed Abdul Rahman has been suspended since the incident.
Magistrate Ainna Sherina Saipolamin granted RM3,000 bail and fixed Oct 11, 2017 for a mention.
