JOHOR BARU: Marine police yesterday nabbed 15 Indonesians believed to have entered Malaysia without valid documents and were returning to their country via an illegal route in Kota Tinggi.
Its Region 2 commander ACP Paul Khiu Khon Chiang said the group was apprehended during an operation, Ops Landai conducted between 3pm and 4pm at three locations in the forest near the seashore at Minyak Beku Sungai Rengit in Kota Tinggi.
He said the Indonesians comprised 13 men aged between 13 and 47 years and two women in their 30s.
"Initial investigations revealed that they were waiting for a boat. But they were believed to have been stranded in the forest due to bad weather and stringent security control by the authorities," he said.
He said the group was being held at the lockup at Kota Tinggi Marine Police Headquarters and would be investigated under the Immigration Act 1959/63 (Amended 2002) for not possessing any valid document and illegal entry. — Bernama
