KUALA LUMPUR: The national archery camp can finally heaved a sigh of relief when it managed to win its solitary gold medal through K. Morogen/Nor Sa’adah Abdul Wahab in the mixed team category at the final event today.
At the event held at the National Sports Council (NSC) synthetic field, the country showcased its best performance since the semi-final when the Malaysian pair beat Singapore’s Nur Syahida Alim/Robert Fuchs with a narrow victory of 147-143 points.
The gold-winning pair continued to excel when they faced Indonesian pair, Toto Wastomi/Tutik Yumiati in the final. Clearly, their performance was unmatched when this was proven after they managed to collect 138 points compared to their opponents who could only collect 117 points overall to earn a silver medal.
The bronze medal went to Singaporean duo Nur Syahida/Robert who defeated Aungaphinan Anon/Panmai Ratchanee of Thailand with 142-126 points.
Speaking to reporters after the competition, Morogen said the gold medal win in his maiden participation in the APG 2017 was one of the most beautiful moments of his life and he could now sleep well after he failed to grab a gold medal in the men’s open individual compound category yesterday.
Meanwhile sharing her joy of victory, Nur Sa’adah said her performance today was far better and she felt calmer and more confident in executing an accurate shot compared to yesterday’s defeat during the women’s open individual compound final.
However another national pair in the mixed team recurve category, L. Ananthy/Hasihin Sanawi had to content with a bronze medal after defeating a duo from the Philippines 5-4 while the gold medal was won by Thai duo Khuthawisap Wasana/Netsiri Hanreuchai with a win of 5-1.
The silver medal went to Indonesian pair Muhammad Nurhadi/Vironika Ninik Umardyani.
Overall the national archery camp managed to collect one gold medal, two silver medals and two bronze medals (1-2-2) at the APC 2017, an improvement of their record at the 2015 edition in Singapore (1-2-1). — Bernama
