SANDAKAN: Youths play an important role in the ummah development agenda, according to Chief Minister Tan Sri Musa Aman.
He said the National Transformation 2050 (TN50) envisioned by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak was an agenda of progress for the country's future, which also required the participation of the youth and younger generation.
"To this end, they must prepare themselves with knowledge, faith and morals," he said at the state-level Maal Hijrah celebration graced by Sabah Head of State Tun Juhar Mahiruddin here today.
Musa said the role of parents was also crucial in ensuring that their children would not stray to a negative path that could only bring adversity to the latter and others.
He cited the recent incident at the Datul Quran Ittifaqiyah Religious School in Kuala Lumpur which claimed 23 lives because of the senseless action of some juvenile delinquents.

Meanwhile, Musa cautioned Muslims in the state against being complacent and unappreciative of the blessings they had received.
"We must understand and appreciate the significance of Hijrah and therefore work harder and be more committed in ensuring the success of the development agenda in the various sectors to enhance economic growth," he said.
He said ummah unity and solidarity was important for progress and prosperity to sustain.
At the event, former Sabah state secretary Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Egoh was named as 'Tokoh Maal Hijrah 1439 Sabah' while Persatuan Persatuan Tindakan Wanita Islam Sabah (Pertiwisa), Sandakan chairman Kamsiah Ajing received the Anugerah Siti Khadijah.
