Another flood relief centre opens in Kedah

SUNGAI PETANI: Another flood relief centre was opened in Kedah at the Kampung Sungai Pial Hall in Merbok, Kuala Muda, making the number of such centres being operated in the state to five as at 5pm today.
Kedah Disaster Management Committee Secretariat coordinator Capt (PA) Saifuddin Abdullah said the number of evacuees at the centres had increased from 461 people from 97 families to 669 involving 149 families.
"The relocation centre at the Kampung Sungai Pial Hall, which sheltered 66 victims from 14 families was opened at 10am.
"In the Kuala Muda district, 390 evacuees from 83 families are being housed at the relocation centre at SK Bukit Kechil in the Bukit Meriam sub-district while 48 people from 11 families are now seeking shelters at the Kampung Jilid 8 Hall in the Bujang sub-district," he said in a statement here.
Saifuddin also said the number of evacuees at the relief centre at SMK Changloon in the Temin sub-district had increased to 145 people from 32 families.
The number of people being housed at the relocation centre at the Kampung Balai Hall in the Kuala Kedah sub-district remained at 20 evacuees from four families, he added. — Bernama
