PEKAN: Meeting Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak was a poignant moment for the former Kampung Baru Salong Branch Wanita chief Fatimah Mahidin when the Prime Minister visited her at her home here today.
Donning a red head scarf as well as a red and white baju kurung that is the official attire for Wanita Umno, the 76-year-old Umno veteran shed tears of joy when she saw Najib, who is also Pekan Member of Parliament turning up at her doorstep.
Najib spent about 15 minutes talking to Fatimah, who suffered from high blood pressure and leg nerves problem, enquring about her well-being and that of her family besides handing over contributions in the form of diapers, milk and cash to her.
Fatimah's daugher, Alawiyah Saman, 53, told reporters, her mother was very happy after being informed the Prime Minister would be visiting their house.
"My mother woke up early in the morning and wore the Umno Wanita official attire because her 'bapak' (Najib) is coming for a visit. The clothes are still being neatly kept even though she is no longer active in the party due to her illness.
"We all share our deepest feelings of gratitude on the Prime Minister's visit to our house, especially since our mother and our late father, Saman Ter, 78, who died ten years ago from lung cancer, was the founder of Umno in this village (Salong)," she added. — Bernama
