Police nab drug traffickers

BUKIT MERTAJAM: Police detained a 29-year-old local man, from Kampung Pinang, Perak, and a 35-year-old Thai national for acting suspiciously in a car in front of a house in Chip Joo Estate.
Drugs were also found on the suspects.
Central Seberang Perai district police chief ACP Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abdul Hamid said, the police found seven Erimin 5 pills in folded aluminium foil and eight pills believed to be Yaba pills.
"Upon further investigation, the duo brought police to a hotel at Jalan Sejahtera where two plastic bags containing 35.85g of syabu was seized.
The syabu is valued at about RM2,625 in the market. We believe the suspects were trying to smuggle the drugs to Thailand," he told reporters.
According to Nik Ros Azhan, although the two suspects did not have criminal records, they however, tested positive for Methamphetamine.
The police are investigating the case under Section 39A(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for trafficking in dangerous drugs and Section 15(1)(a) of the same act for taking drugs.
In another case, Nik Ros Azhan said police are looking for two men, who were allegedly taking drugs at a chicken coop in Kampung Bukit Teh, Machang Bubok.
The suspects managed to run away from the Ops Cegah Dadah team but left five plastic bags containing 35.4g of heroin behind.
"The value of the heroin is worth about RM885 in the market," he said, adding that the police would continue to track the suspects.
He said the police would investigate the case under Section 39(B) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1957 for drug trafficking which carries the mandatory death penalty.
