Chronic kidney patient charged with human trafficking

SHAH ALAM: A woman with a chronic kidney condition claimed trial in the Sessions Court here today to a charge of trafficking in an Indonesian woman for labour exploitation.
Nor Fatin Mohd Kadim, 28, who appeared in court in a wheelchair, was charged with committing the offence against the woman, Ridona Manurung, 28, at a house in Bandar Puncak Alam, Kuala Selangor, between Jan 4, 2016, and Sept 20, 2017.
She was charged under Section 12 of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007 which carries a jail term of up to 15 years and a fine.
Deputy public prosecutor Jaizah Jaafar Sidek did not offer bail to the accused as the offence is non-bailable, however, she proposed RM30,000 if the court agreed to grant bail to the woman.
Counsel Khairul Nizam Abd Razak who appeared for Nor Fatin, asked the court to grant a bail of between RM8,000 and RM9,000 on the grounds that his client had to undergo dialysis three times a week.
Judge Mohd Sabri Ismail allowed bail of RM15,000 in one surety and fixed Oct 24 for re-mention of the case. — Bernama
