Cop claims trial to receiving RM6.5k bribe

JOHOR BARU: A police sergeant was charged with three counts of accepting a RM6,500 bribe from a fireworks seller in 2015, at the Session Court today.
Harjinder Singh, 53, from the Kota Tinggi police station, allegedly received the money as an inducement not to take action against fireworks seller, Mohd Fairus Norani's workers and his business.
He, allegedly received RM4,000 from Mohd Fairus Norani at Kota Tinggi police station around 10pm on June 26, 2015, as an inducement to release two of the latter's workers who had illegally sold firecrackers and fireworks.
On the second and third charges, he allegedly received RM500 and RM2,000 respectively from Mohd Fairus, as an inducement not to take action against his enterprise for illegally selling firecrackers and fireworks.
He allegedly received the bribes, between June 26 to July 18, 2015 at the Kota Tinggi police station, and a restaurant in Taman Kota Jaya.
Judge Mohd Fauzi set bail at RM10,000 with one surety and Oct 24 for the next mention.
MACC prosecution officer Norsyarina Raizan prosecuted and the accused was unrepresented.
