Flood situation in Perlis improves

KANGAR: Another three flood relief centres were closed this evening while four remained open to shelter 855 people from 240 families.
The relief centres closed at 4pm are Pangkalan Asam Community Hall in the Kangar Parliamentary constituency and Padang Petani Community Hall and Sekolah Kebangsaan Kampung Serdang in the Arau Parliamentary constituency.
Perlis State Disaster Management Secretariat, in a statement here, said in the Arau seat, only the Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Long Boh relief centre which sheltered 87 people from 23 families remained open.
The relief centre in Kangar Parliamentary seat still open are at SK Bintong which accommodates 403 people from 119 families; SK Panggau (202 people from 48 families); SK Sri Perlis (95 people from 30 families) and Kota Keran Community Hall (68 people from 20 families).
A secretariat spokesman said the remaining evacuees at the relief centres would be allowed to return home late this evening or tomorrow following an improvement in the flood situation. — Bernama
