RECENTLY, Baskin-Robbins marked Malaysia Day by giving out free junior-scoops of ice cream at all 123 of its outlets nationwide.
The giveaway, which took place between 8pm and 10pm on Sept 16, was part of Baskin-Robbins' Free Scoop Night, held in honour of Malaysia's recent SEA Games success.
At the Baskin-Robbins outlet in 1Utama Shopping Centre, Selangor, people had been eagerly lining up for their free scoops of ice cream since 7.30pm.
Baskin-Robbins Malaysia president Datuk Cheah See Yeong was also at the outlet, greeting ice cream lovers and helping to hand out free scoops of ice cream.
Earlier, Cheah had helped count down to the moment when Free Scoop Night would begin, along with key Baskin-Robbins executives, as well as actress Amyra Rosli, who is Baskin-Robbins' official ambassador and First Pink Lady.
Speaking to local media, Amyra explained: "What I love about Malaysia is that it's a peaceful country, with so many races living together in harmony.
"And even though we are all different, with different tastes, Baskin-Robbins is sure to have an ice cream flavour that will appeal to each of us."
Cheah added: "We are proud of our athletes who managed to win 145 gold medals at our recent SEA Games. Sports is something that unites us, and we also wanted to do something for all Malaysians.
"Since today is also Malaysia Day, what better way to celebrate than with free ice cream?"
Cheah also remarked that the company had held a similar Free Scoop Night event during the 2012 London Olympics.
At the time, Baskin-Robbins had only 62 outlets, and had given away over 68,000 scoops of ice cream. This time round, the company managed to give away over 120,000 scoops.
"Our motto is 'Make People Happy'," Cheah added, "and if there is anything good to celebrate in the future, fans can be assured we will hold a similar event again."
