PUTRAJAYA: Two men who were arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on Monday over its investigations into a land scam involving Great Alonioners Trading Corp (Gatco) have been remanded for three days beginning today.
The remand order was issued by Magistrate Mohd Nor Hafidzuddin Yusof for both suspects who are brothers with Datuk titles.
Meanwhile, a 69-year-old suspect who had played the part of a liquidator on the controversial ownership transfer was released on MACC bail today after he had been remanded since last week.
It was reported that the brothers, aged 50 and 54, were arrested between 11.45am and 12.15pm on Monday by MACC officers at two separate locations in the Klang Valley.
It is learnt that the first suspect is the chief executive officer of a company while the second is the chief executive officer of a second company linked to the scam and also acts as an adviser to the first company.
Last weekend, MACC arrested the 69-year old liquidator when he went to give his statement at the commission's office in Putrajaya.
The commission set up a special task force earlier this month to probe corruption claims made by a group of settlers who had invested in a 2,000ha land scheme under Gatco in 1977 in Jempol, Negri Sembilan.
Subsequently, MACC conducted raids at several locations simultaneously in Petaling Jaya which included Thamarai Holdings, the office of National Union of Plantation Workers and a lawyer's office in Plaza Pengkalan in Jalan Tiong, Taman Million, Kuala Lumpur.
