KAMPAR: The Perak Mentri Besar's Retreat that was initiated in February last year enabled Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir to endear himself to about 165,000 people in various localities in the state.
Zambry said the retreat, which has entered its 10th series, implemented more than 1,000 programmes to listen to various issues and problems of the people.
"The programmes implemented were not necessarily those drawn up earlier but also included those which were arranged at the 11th hour just before meeting the people," he said to reporters in Malim Nawar near here today.
Zambry had handed out land titles to 144 participants of the Structured Villages Programme in Gua Sanding and Kampung Changkat Tualang as well as 16 participants of the Bukit Pekan Collective Farming Programme.
Earlier, he also launched a ground-breaking for 54 units of Rumah Amanjaya Tualang Sekah on 2.94ha.
The houses, subsidised by the government, were for sale at RM70,000 per unit.
Zambry also said that his going down to the ground with state executive councillors to clean an area of Malim Nawar of refuse was an ongoing effort to instil in the people in the localities the need to ensure cleanliness.
He said the approach was to show that maintaining cleanliness was the responsibility of all the people and not just the local authorities.
"What we are doing is no political gimmick to garner votes. In fact, the people can judge for themselves what is good and bad.
"I want to tell the opposition to stop their criticism because we will continue to implement the 'Clean Perak' programme to inculcate in the people the importance of maintaining cleanliness," he said.
Zambry, attired in the uniform of Kampar District Council general employees, drove a refuse truck and then joined about 100 local authority workers to clean an area of the town. — Bernama
