Provim serves to boost patriotism: Salleh

KUALA LUMPUR: Communication and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak said he is confident that the organising of Projek Video Malaysia (Provim) will further boost national solidarity and patriotism.
It would also prevent the people from being influenced by fake news on social media, he said.
He said the spread of positive messages was important in the wake of too much negativity on social media which is feared can cause disunity among the various races in the country.
"I hope this noble programme will continue to further spur the patriotic spirit," he said at the prize-giving ceremony for the winners of Provim 2017 at Menara Suruhanjaya Koperasi Malaysia (SKM) here today.
The first prize winner was Mohammad Faiz Yaakob, 33, an English teacher from Kelantan whose clip titled Negaraku was inspired by Malaysian paralympians who brought glory to the nation.
Mohammad Faiz, who teaches at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Tok Janggut, Pasir Puteh, took home a Proton Saga 1.3 CVT car and RM5,000.
"I did not expect to win as it was a very short clip without the trappings like extraordinary visuals and soundtrack. It was done with the help of a group of my students and the underlying message was to ask the people to use whatever talents they have to contribute to the nation," he said.
Second place was won by Muhammad Ali Zulfaqqar Shafie for his clip titled Empat Langkah Untuk Meraikan Kemerdekaan.
The prize was RM3,000 and four-day-three-night cruise tickets for two for a Penang- Phuket-Krabi round trip.
The clip titled Terbang earned Mohd Hanif Zulkifli third place. He won a Demak motorcycle and RM2,000.
The contest which entered its second year this year is organised by Unit Digital, News and Current Affairs Department, Media Prima Berhad (MPB) in collaboration with i-Berhad and the Cooperatives Commission of Malaysia in conjunction with the National Day month. — Bernama
