Seminar on issues facing SMEs and IP rights

KUALA LUMPUR: Many small and medium enterprises (SMEs) have started using the E-Commerce platform but still lacked understanding on the potential legal and ethical issues arising from intellectual property (IP) rights.
To address this, the Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (ACCCIM) will be jointly organising the third series seminar for SMEs to learn and clear their doubts in using E-Commerce.
ACCCIM deputy secretary-general II and legal affairs committee chairman Micheal Chai Woon Chew said the seminar titled "Practical Legal Issues Facing SMEs" will not only give a broad overview of IP rights in the context of E-commerce, but will also explore the different challenges faced by SMEs.
The seminar will be held on Oct 11 from 9am to 1pm.
"IP owners face different challenges in this continuously changing and borderless e-commerce environment and they should share tips on how to tackle them," he told a press conference today.
"Many SMEs are increasingly expanding their businesses by selling and trading their products and services worldwide through the e-commerce platform.
"IP generates the highest value compared to tangible assets but yet it is easily neglected and less commonly understood by the companies."
