Situation continues to improve in flood-hit Kedah

ALOR STAR: The situation in flood-hit areas of Kedah continued to improve, with the number of evacuees dropping further, to 1,262 as at 4pm compared to 1,706 in the afternoon.
The Kedah Disaster Management Department Secretariat said more evacuees were expected to return to their homes by tonight.
As of 4pm, the 1,262 evacuees from 375 families were being housed at 11 relief centres in the Kota Setar, Kubang Pasu, Pokok Sena and Pendang districts, down from the 1,706 evacuees from 487 families at 13 centres this afternoon, it said in a statement.
In Kota Star, the evacuees are being accommodated at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Titi Gajah, Alor Star; SK Seri Gunung; SK Alor Mengkudu; Assyakirin Surau, Kepala Batas; Kampung Kelompang hall; Seberang Perak Social Welfare Department and Kampung Tok Pauh hall.
In Pokok Sena, the evacuees were at SK Bukit Hijau and the Lubuk Keriang hall.
In Kubang Pasu, the relief centre is at SK Kodiang Lama and in Pendang, at the Tanah Merah Rakan Sukan hall.
Meanwhile, the Corporate Communications Branch of the Muda Agricultural Development Authority (Mada), in a statement, said 25 volunteers of the Mada Farmers Corps and Mada staff cleared rubbish that had collected below seven bridges along Sungai Baru and at Kampung Titi Pondok Bedil in Alor Setar to allow for smooth flow of the river.
"Once the floodwaters recede completely, the volunteers will clean the suraus, nurseries and old folks homes in the villages," it said. — Bernama
