KEPALA BATAS: The Malaysian Anti- Corruption Commission (MACC) has yet to record a statement from Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng over the illegal carbon filter factory in Sungai Lembu that saw a senior exco arrested last month.
MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Dzulkifli Ahmad however said he expects Lim to be called in soon to assist in the probe.
"We will be calling him very soon," he said during a press conference after attending an anti-corruption programme at his alma mater Sekolah Kebangsaan Hashim Awang, here today.
Dzulkfli also said the agency is in the final stage of investigation on the illegal carbon filter factory, but declined to elaborate further.
The MACC and other federal enforcement agencies on Aug 10 raided the illegal factory after receiving complaints from residents in the area.
Penang Environment, Welfare and Caring Society Committee chairman Phee Boon Poh,and two senior management personnel of the factory were detained the day after the raid.
The MACC initially obtained a five-day remand order against the trio but the Penang High Court set aside the order on the three.
On action to be taken against Lim who refused to apologise to the commission for his defamatory statement, Dzulkfli said the MACC is currently waiting for the report from the Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC).
On Aug 25, the commission gave Lim 48 hours to tender an open and unconditional apology or face legal action, following his statement that was deemed defamatory by the MACC.
Lim irked the MACC after reportedly saying Phee's detention over the illegal carbon filter factory in Sungai Lembu was illegal.
Meanwhile, Dzulkifli said a man with a "Datuk" title was arrested by the MACC at about 12.30pm today.
He said the 61-year old suspect was detained when he arrived at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya after he was scheduled to have his statement recorded.
He said the arrest was in connection with the investigations involving alleged siphoning of RM40 million from a government fund.
